Amy Richmond
2018 Stylist of the Year
Off the back of winning the 2017 One to Watch award, Gold Coast stylist Amy Richmond has taken out the 2018 Stylist of the Year. A 'stylist of all trades' and mum of two, Amy has a background in aviation and came to Australian Style Institute craving a creative career change. Since beginning her Masters of Advanced Professional Styling in 2016, Amy has gone from strength to strength in her styling business.

Amy is the resident stylist for Harbourtown Shopping Centre, running workshops for customers and tourists, filming promotional videos, styling campaigns and VM displays. Australian Style Institute also gave Amy the opportunity to work worked closely with celebrity stylist and ASI mentor Lana Wilkinson on this year's TV Week Logie Awards and during Melbourne Fashion Week. In 2018 Amy also dabbled in her own celebrity styling, working with professional surfer Nikki van Dijk on the World Surf League Awards earlier in the year.

Amy has also been working hard on the editorial side of her business this year, styling 7 shoots with more booked in before the end of the year. These include campaigns for Harbourtown Shopping Centre, designer Gail Sorronda and Busy Models, styling their model's portfolios. She has also produced the Marriott Melbourne Cup Fashion Parades for the second year in a row.

"I have been building some strong relationships with designers, boutiques, hair stylists and makeup artists. I have some collaborations and packages with hair salons, photographers and am working some packages into local gyms . I still work with my personal styling clients, and while this hasn’t been my focus I am now in talks with Harbourtown about advertising my services with them. Now that I look back it’s actually been a pretty big year all things considered and I have just scratched the surface. I can’t wait to kick some more goals next year!"

It has been an incredible year of action taking for Brisbane-based stylist Kerrie, which has seen her expand her skills across editorial, personal styling, and workshops. Getting her work published in print and online publications, Kerrie has also been attracting and working with some amazing personal styling clients. Presenting workshops and building a firm brand alliance with a custom made tailoring company and women’s special occasion wear has been another highlight. But the opportunity that takes the cake is her role in Donny Galella’s styling team for the Gold Coast TV Week Logies.

On the experience, Kerrie says, "Being able to work with beautiful couture and an incredibly talented actress was an unbelievable experience like no other!"

Recently moving from a full time role in the engineering industry to a part time role has allowed Kerrie to focus further on the growth of her styling business. Kerrie will not only be expanding her client base further from Gold Coast, Toowoomba and Brisbane surrounds though also the integrated services she offers to both personal styling clients and partnered company relationships. A very deserved, 2018 Student of the Year Winner.

VANESSA LAWRENCE
2018 One to Watch
Small town doesn't have to mean small mindset, and this couldn't be more accurate for Port Macquarie stylist Vanessa Lawrence. 2018 has seen her take the northern New South Wales town's fashion scene by storm, culminating in a glamorous business launch in October (you can check it out here).

Vanessa has been working closely with her local shopping centre to curate fashion and styling pop ups and has recently secured a retainer to work on various projects in 2019. Vanessa was a guest judge for the Port Cup and has styled and produced runways in collaboration with Rydges Hotel and local retailers.  She was also recently interviewed on Prime 7 news.

"There is no way when I started this course did I think I would be able to do what I’m doing now, it is really a dream come true for me and I am so excited and will continue reach for the stars on my styling journey!"

Vanessa began her Masters course in February of this year.

From the second Jessica walked out of the Australian Style Institute doors she took action and it has seen her career as a stylist grow and grow.  When she enrolled in the Certificate of Professional Styling and Image, Jessica was a mum to a one year old, living in a regional area with a husband who worked away. To add to the mix, she found out a week later that she was pregnant with baby number two!

Within days of completing her course, Jessica was styling her first client for a celebrity wedding. She solidified paid bookings that same week and traction kept building from there. Living in regional Gippsland, Jessica initially tended to clients between Sale and Melbourne, although very soon her local client demand meant she didn't need to travel far.

In just 5 months Jessica has completed her studies, undertaken 13 personal shops, 21 wardrobe makeovers, 17 signature styling packages and hundreds of hours of personal styling. She has been published in a local feature newspaper; 'Gippslandia' on a two page spread and has also featured as a guest blogger for "The Launch Girls". 2018 has also seen Jessica launch an online product, allowing clients from afar to access personal styling services, as well as an E-book.

With a wait list of 22 clients to take on after her maternity leave, 2019 will also see Jessica speak at various events, and we'll be watching!

However, it’s been the most rewarding role and I am now stronger in who I am and believe in myself creatively. I will always keep on improving!"
